Get involved
From school visits and accredited learning to volunteering opportunities and summer school clubs, ABLE has something for everyone. See how you can get involved!
Educational visits
Our 34 acre site provides a truly unique outdoor education experience. We offer accredited training in practical skills and curriculum relevant subjects as well as fun packed activities for out of school visits.
Primary and Secondary school groups are welcome to attend ABLE on either a half day or full day session. Activities are tailored to the needs of the group and can be based around curriculum specific topics. Click on information for teachers to find out more.
Accredited training
ABLE also offers 12 week activity programmes geared towards achieving ASDAN accreditation. Find out more in the Accredited learning section.
Volunteering
At ABLE there is always so much to do on site and we are always in need of help. Volunteering at ABLE not only helps us on the site, but learning opportunities are never far away at ABLE, volunteers can learn all different aspects of the project, or attend site to pass on their expertise to others. Whatever you can do, bring it to ABLE, find out more in the Volunteering section of this website.
Able2Build
Able 2 Build training scheme helps the long term unemployed and young people get workplace skills in construction and joinery. Check our Able2Build page to find out more and download our latest garden furniture brochure.
The benefits of outdoor learning
Outdoor activity has a beneficial impact on mood indicators and has been shown to have a therapeutic affect on people dealing with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) and autism.
ABLE works with NHS health trainers and career practitioners, this means our core programmes benefit from embedded sessions that develop emotional and social skills. These sessions enable young people to better manage their own behaviour and attendance.
Groups who benefit
The people who particularly benefit from experience on a care farm such as ABLE tend to be those who are already experiencing some marginalisation from mainstream provision and services such as:
- young people with practical skills interests
- young people with low confidence and self esteem - especially those excluded from school
- children and adults with learning difficulties
- adults with mental health problems
- Individuals recovering from substance misuse and/or offending behaviours
Please get in touch if you would like more information on visiting our care farm.
