ABLE and Turning Point build an Iron Age Roundhouse
ABLE Build a Iron Age Roundhouse on the Calder Vale road site
The ABLE Project in partnership with Turning Point have begun building a Merlin Roundhouse on the ABLE site on Calder Vale road. Participants engaged on the project have the opportunity to learn new practical skills, including medieval methods in construction skills, along the way. The Roundhouse will be built section by section, with a group of 6 participants working on each section at any one time.
Work began in April with the marking out of the area that the Roundhouse was going to be located. Currently work is underway to clear the land of any debris so that the foundations can be started. The first wall is already well on its way to completion.
An allotment has also been cleared in preparation to be used by the Turning Point staff and service users to grow some vegetables at the same time as building the Roundhouse.
Expected completion date: December 2012
