Bumper Crop of Honey at ABLE

Added: Oct 28, 02:41 PM

A bumper crop of honey has been produced this year at ABLE this year.

The ABLE hives have doubled in size since last year and this combined with a mild onset of Autumn and a long growing season has meant more honeybees have worked longer than usual to produce a bumper crop in 2009.

Once the honey has been sealed in the combs by the bees, Mick and Gene, ABLE’s two resident honey experts, remove the frames from the hives to extract the honey. They uncap the wax sealed frames and then use centrifugal force to spin the honey out to drain into jars.

Over 500 jars of honey will be sold over the reception desk at ABLE, at events and also through ABLE’s catering partner Catering Plus.
