New Outdoor Learning Coordinator for ABLE
Added: May 2, 02:22 PMCoralie Hopwood, has been appointed the new Outdoor Learning Coordinator at ABLE. The new post was made possible through funding from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation. This will allow ABLE to develop and extend training opportunities and skills development for young people, re-engage them in the education process, and lead to participation in the mainstream economy.
The ABLE project provides an alternative curriculum in aquaculture and horticulture to the young people attending the site. Coralie’s initial role will focus on gaining accreditation for these activities, for example through an ASDAN or Open College Network award. Once this has been achieved accreditation will be sought for other training activities available on site, for example beekeeping, preparing meals, tree planting, and path laying, and for potential new activities such as construction techniques, woodland crafts, arts and angling.
Coralie will also have responsibility for developing employment opportunities by liaising with local employers. Coralie, who started at the project in February commented “I am very much looking forward to developing the new role at ABLE and to helping the young people attending the site by providing them with training opportunities outside of traditional educational subjects”.
